The Redmagic 12 Pro is now the first Snapdragon-powered Android phone to support the Linux Terminal app, according to 9to5Google. The Terminal, introduced by Google in Android 16 for Pixel phones, had until now only appeared on Samsung's Exynos-powered Galaxy S26 series with One UI 8.5.
This marks a significant milestone for Android-PC convergence: power users can now run full Linux commands on a phone with Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chip. The discovery came after a tipster asked about compatibility, and a 9to5Google editor confirmed it by enabling the Terminal and running commands on the device.
Redmagic 12 Pro Linux Terminal specs and limitations
The implementation differs from Samsung's Exynos Galaxy S26: while the Redmagic 12 Pro locks the Terminal's disk size at 132GB, it does allow users to adjust the memory available (from 1GB default up to 10.6GB) and the display resolution. The GUI feature is also supported, meaning programs like GIMP should run if installed—though the 9to5Google editor encountered 404 errors using the standard installation command.
9to5Google has reached out to Qualcomm for comment on wider Snapdragon support and will update if a response arrives.
- First Snapdragon device with Linux Terminal support
- Terminal disk size is locked at 132GB (unlike Exynos S26 where it's adjustable)
- Memory allocation can be raised from 1GB default up to 10.6GB
