YouTube is removing the Subscriptions tab from the bottom navigation bar of its Android and iOS apps, ending a nearly decade-long placement that dates back to 2017. The change was reported by 9to5Google on October 22, 2026, and is part of a wider set of updates the platform is calling a more seamless Home experience.
Subscriptions will not disappear entirely. The tab moves to the top bar of the Home tab, appearing in the second position after Home with a red underline. YouTube says the redesign, which was first tested earlier this year, also coincides with the launch of custom feeds and removes the need for the app's navigation drawer.
What changes in the YouTube mobile app
The bottom bar has carried Subscriptions in its fourth slot for almost ten years, and moving it will break muscle memory for millions of users who open the app and tap that icon without thinking. In its place, YouTube is adding dedicated feeds for Live, Music, and Movies & TV, with the last one appearing only if you have active subscriptions such as Primetime Channels.
The new layout places Home first, then Subs, followed by any custom feeds you create. Because those feeds live as top tabs, YouTube says the change also allows it to remove the navigation drawer entirely.
- Subscriptions leaves the bottom bar after nearly a decade in that position (since 2017)
- Subs now sits in the top bar of the Home tab, second after Home, marked with a red underline
- New dedicated feeds for Live, Music, and Movies & TV join the interface
