Google has begun rolling out a long-awaited feature for its Find Hub network: "Notify when left behind" alerts. The option sends a notification to your Android phone when a tracker — or the item attached to it — gets separated from you, giving you a chance to retrieve it before you go too far. The rollout was first spotted by 9to5Google and reported by Engadget and Android Authority.
The capability was previewed by Google in October and mentioned in Google Play services release notes under the name "Left-Behind Reminders." It brings Find Hub closer to Apple's Find My, which has offered separation alerts for years, and Samsung's SmartThings, which added a similar option for Galaxy SmartTags and Buds.
How to enable Find Hub separation alerts
Enabling the feature is straightforward. Open the Find Hub app, pick a tag, then tap the settings gear icon in the top-right corner of the bottom sheet. A new section titled "Notify when left behind" lets you toggle on alerts for that specific device.
According to 9to5Google, the feature is showing up with Chipolo trackers and the Moto Tag on version 3.1.787-06 of the Find Hub app for Android, in both the US and Europe. Engadget notes the rollout currently appears limited to the US and parts of Europe, and it does not yet apply to other device types such as headphones.
- Open the Find Hub app on your Android phone.
- Select a tracker from your device list.
- Tap the settings gear icon in the top-right corner of the bottom sheet.
