Android Auto may soon bring your office into your car. An Android Authority teardown of Android Auto version 18.0.664204 uncovered a Work Mode tile, according to Engadget, hinting that Google is testing Work Profile controls for the dashboard.
The site's team managed to surface the tile in the app drawer, where it appeared with a briefcase icon. Tapping it, however, did nothing. Google has not said whether the tile will ever reach drivers, when it might arrive, or what it would actually do.
What Android Work Profiles actually do
An Android Work Profile is not the same thing as adding a second Gmail account. It keeps employer-managed apps in a separate space, marked with briefcase badges, while personal apps and data stay outside the company's reach on a phone the employee owns.
To check whether you have one, look for separate Personal and Work tabs or briefcase icons in your app drawer. If neither shows up, you can confirm under Settings > Passwords and accounts. The distinction matters because Work Profile restrictions are especially visible in video conferencing.
- Microsoft says Teams supports audio calls and meetings through Android Auto, but the integration does not work when the app sits inside a managed Work Profile.
- Google Meet behaves differently: an active Work Profile call can appear on the dashboard, but upcoming meetings and call history from that profile will not.
- A missing app is not always a Work Profile problem; it may simply be hidden from the Android Auto launcher, or Android Auto may have a connection issue.
