YouTube appears to be testing a change that hides the dislike button on regular videos, according to reports from 9to5Google, The Verge and Android Authority. Several users have shared screenshots showing the dislike option moved into the three-dots overflow menu, separate from the like button.
The reports point to a small number of cases rather than a public rollout. The Verge cited at least two users on X and one on Reddit, while 9to5Google noted it could not replicate the behavior. Google has not replied to requests for comment, so the scale of the test remains unclear.
YouTube dislike button changes so far
This is not the first time YouTube has reshaped how dislikes work. In 2021, the platform hid public dislike counts, a decision it said was meant to shield creators from harassment. The button itself stayed visible next to the like button, and creators kept access to the numbers.
Earlier this year, the company removed the dislike button from YouTube Shorts and suggested users rely on options in the three-dots menu. The new reports suggest the same approach may now be reaching standard videos, though YouTube has not confirmed it.
- 2021: YouTube hid public dislike counts on videos, saying the move helped protect creators from harassment. Creators can still see the counts.
- Earlier this year: YouTube removed the dislike button from Shorts and pointed users to the three-dots menu instead.
- Now: Reports say the dislike button is being pushed into the three-dots menu on standard videos in what appears to be a limited test.
