Xreal has put the Aura smart glasses on sale, the first wired wearable to run Google's Android XR platform. The device was announced at the Android Dev Summit on Wednesday, October 28, after being teased at Google I/O earlier this year. It pairs a 95-gram pair of glasses with a phone-sized compute puck and starts at $1,099 during a launch promotion.
The launch matters because it is hardware you can actually order, not a developer demo. Google is following its Android playbook, leaning on partners like Xreal and Samsung to get its XR platform onto faces, while Meta pushes ahead with its own smart glasses. Xreal says units will begin shipping in mid-November.
Xreal Aura specs and price
The Aura uses Sony Micro-OLED displays with 1200p resolution at 120Hz and a wide field of view, backed by Qualcomm's Snapdragon Reality Elite chip inside the puck. The glasses are tethered by a user-replaceable USB-C cable, and the puck carries the battery, a trackpad, a fingerprint sensor and a detachable belt clip.
Two memory configurations are offered, both in standard and large sizes, with a carrying case included. The launch pricing runs through December, after which the list prices return.
