Samsung's Android 17-based One UI 9 update is running into trouble on several fronts. Some Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S25 owners say battery life dropped noticeably after installing the update, according to reports collected by 9to5Google. Separately, a setup bug has left some Galaxy S26 Ultra phones stuck and effectively unusable.
Neither problem appears to hit every device. The battery complaints are scattered rather than widespread, and the Galaxy S26 Ultra issue seems tied to specific networks and a reset of the phone. Even so, both cases show how a single software rollout can change how a flagship phone behaves from one day to the next.
Samsung One UI 9 battery drain reports
The battery problem follows a familiar pattern: a major update lands on a last-generation device and, for some users, endurance gets worse. SammyFans spotted a report of one phone that died in just over 5 hours, admittedly under heavy use. Other posts on Reddit mention increased drain while the phone is idle, and at least one Galaxy S25 owner says charging three to four times a day is now normal.
9to5Google notes these cases look like the exception rather than the rule for now, with no large wave of identical complaints. Users dealing with faster drain can try a simple reboot, force-stopping misbehaving apps or a factory reset. As always with big system updates, results vary from device to device.
- One user reported the phone dying in just over 5 hours on heavy use.
- Reddit reports point to higher idle battery drain after the update.
- A Galaxy S25 owner said the phone now needs charging 3 to 4 times a day.
