Instagram has launched an app for Apple TV, letting users watch Reels, longer videos and live shows on Apple's streaming device for the first time. The app appeared on October 23, according to MacRumors, and marks another step in Instagram's push to move short-form video from the phone to the television.
The Apple TV release follows earlier Instagram apps for Fire TV, Google TV and Samsung smart TVs. Instagram says the app is designed for watching together with friends and family, and it lets viewers follow content from favorite creators, discover new videos and resume watching across devices.
Instagram on Apple TV: what the app offers
The Apple TV version of Instagram keeps the focus on video rather than the full social feed. Users can browse Reels from creators they follow, find new videos through discovery, and pick up where they left off on another device thanks to cross-device resume.
Live shows are also part of the package, giving creators a direct line to viewers on a TV screen. Instagram frames the app as a shared experience, aimed at households rather than solo scrolling on a phone.
