Ghost has emerged from stealth after a year of building, with an $11 million seed round led by Andreessen Horowitz, according to TechCrunch. The startup's first product is Core, a $3,499 personal computer built specifically to run AI agents that can take actions on a person's behalf.
The company was founded by 19-year-old CEO Zain Javaid, who previously worked as a quant and told TechCrunch he became interested in personal AI after ChatGPT launched in 2022. His founding team includes Nicholas Chua, 19, Yifei Chen, 24, and Gautam Sharda, 23.
Ghost Core specs and pricing
Core is not a general-purpose desktop that happens to run AI tools. According to Javaid, the hardware and software were built from the ground up for agents, with models preinstalled and a system that can continuously process information without constant prompting. The device is meant to centralize a person's data — from desktop files and apps to smart home devices — into one piece of hardware that runs agents locally.
The machine is described as a "brain in a box" without a screen, accessed through a phone or the Core app. Voice mode is available too, but users speak into the app rather than the box itself.
