Apple is preparing to hold a product event on October 28 in Los Angeles, where it is expected to unveil its first touchscreen MacBook Pro with an OLED display, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. The report, highlighted by 9to5Mac, says Apple has begun sending invitations to selected media representatives. Gurman had previously pointed to October 27, but the date has now shifted by a day.
The event is shaping up to be one of Apple's busiest hardware showcases in years. Alongside the touchscreen MacBook Pro, the company is expected to introduce an OLED iPad mini, a redesigned entry-level MacBook Pro with an M6 chip, and a new iMac. The touchscreen MacBook Pro will likely dominate headlines, though recent reporting suggests the design may not be as radically slim as early rumors implied.
Touchscreen MacBook Pro specs and what else to expect
The touchscreen MacBook Pro is the centerpiece of the rumored event. According to the report, it will feature an OLED panel, a Dynamic Island in place of the notch, and will be powered by M5 Pro and M5 Max chips. It is also expected to be significantly lighter than the current models, though earlier hopes for a much slimmer chassis have been tempered.
The OLED iPad mini is another notable upgrade. It is said to move the FaceTime camera to the landscape edge rather than the portrait edge, and to include a revamped speaker system. Meanwhile, the new iMac and the entry-level MacBook Pro are expected to keep their existing designs and simply receive a chip update to the M6.
