Samsung has launched a series of ads mocking the iPhone Duo's rocky debut, branding the display failures reported by early buyers as "crackgate" and pushing customers toward the Galaxy Z Fold 8 instead. According to 9to5Google, the posts appeared on Samsung's Instagram accounts in Canada, Malaysia, Australia and Saudi Arabia, with no attempt at subtlety.
The campaign lands as Apple's first foldable faces scrutiny over screens that reportedly crack and die in the center, all in the same spot, suggesting a flaw in the hinge design. Apple is replacing affected devices, but Samsung is clearly happy to point out that folding phones are still new territory for its rival.
What Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 8 ads actually say
The Canadian post tells viewers that "folding is nothing new to us" and that Samsung knows "one thing or eight," closing with a blunt call to "Switch to Galaxy Z Fold8." The attached image shows the iPhone Duo's now-familiar center-screen crack.
Other markets pushed the joke further. Samsung Malaysia leaned on durability and FOMO, Samsung Australia posted about "how life sounds when your screen doesn't break when opening your phone," and Samsung Saudi Arabia placed the iPhone Duo crack on a Galaxy Z Fold 8 before revealing it was only a wallpaper.
The iPhone Duo vs Galaxy Z Fold 8 durability question
The mockery has a factual base: multiple early iPhone Duo owners reported the same failure pattern, with the panel dying in the middle of the display. Apple has not publicly explained the cause, and no official recall or design change has been announced in the sources we reviewed.
Samsung, meanwhile, is positioning the Galaxy Z Fold 8 as the mature alternative after several foldable generations. The company has also teased wider foldable plans for Galaxy S27 and weighed a larger Galaxy Z Fold 9, according to 9to5Google, and recent coverage shows the Galaxy Z Fold 8 discounted by $200 at Amazon with trade-in offers up to $800 on the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra at Samsung.com.
