PopVax has begun the first-in-human trial of PVX-001, a broadly-protective Covid-19 vaccine candidate. The company said the first two participants were safely dosed in Melbourne, Australia, on August 31, 2026, under registration number ACTRN12626000891325.
The Phase I study is designed to test safety and tolerability, and to gather early data on how strong and how broad the immune response is against multiple variants of SARS-CoV-2. PopVax's founder announced the milestone publicly on October 10, 2026.
PVX-001 trial design and early safety data
PopVax says the trial will enroll 36 healthy adult volunteers in total. As of October 6, 2026, 14 participants who met the screening criteria had been enrolled and dosed, with no serious adverse events reported.
The candidate is meant to protect against future variants of SARS-CoV-2 that may emerge, rather than targeting a single circulating strain. Follow-up and safety monitoring for the volunteers are continuing.
