Apple will unveil its first touchscreen MacBook Pro this Wednesday, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, ending a decades-long refusal to put touch on Mac laptops. The new OLED models reportedly sit at the top of a reshuffled MacBook Pro lineup.
Gurman's sources say Apple tuned macOS specifically for the machine, with a dynamic interface that adapts depending on whether you last used the touchscreen or the trackpad. It is the biggest overhaul of the MacBook Pro since 2021, and the first Mac to answer years of requests for touch input.
OLED touch MacBook Pro: what the leak says
The new flagship MacBook Pros are reported to be significantly lighter and to add a Dynamic Island, OLED displays, touch input and possibly cellular support. The redesigned models will likely cost significantly more than today's MacBook Pro, per Gurman.
9to5Mac reports the lineup will split into three tiers once the touchscreen model arrives: the current 14-inch M6 model keeps its spot at the base, the existing high-end M5 and M6 mini-LED models move to the middle without changes, and the OLED touch versions take the top.
- Base tier: 14-inch M6, expected to hold the M5 14-inch price of $1999 (about 5797 TND), with 1TB storage and 16GB unified memory
- Middle tier: current high-end MacBook Pros, unchanged, with mini-LED displays staying in production through 2028 per Omdia
- Top tier: new OLED touch models, reportedly significantly lighter, with Dynamic Island and possibly cellular
- Pricing on the OLED models is still guessed at and could start higher than early estimates
