Netflix unveiled AI Discover, a new tab that recommends what to watch based on your mood, viewing habits, who you're watching with and how much time you have. The announcement came Tuesday, November 3, 2026, per TechCrunch and Engadget.
The feature is Netflix's latest attempt to cut down on aimless scrolling through a growing library. Netflix calls AI Discover its "test kitchen," a space to try new discovery features before deciding which ones graduate to the main Netflix experience.
How Netflix AI Discover works
The first experimental feature under the tab is theme-based recommendation. Users see a set of AI-generated themes, each paired with a relevant clip, and pick the one that fits the moment.
Netflix said AI helps create the themes and that it will explain results along the way. Feedback from users will shape which features stay, improve or move to the main app.
- Pick a theme: "something light," "scare me," "family movie night," "quick watches" and more, each shown with a clip from a show or movie.
- Refine your search: choose more specific themes, or hit "something different" to start over.
- "Tune Your Recommendations": a button next to Play and My List that lets you save what you like or exclude titles you never want suggested again.
- Where it appears: a Discover button with a red gem icon and a "New" label in the top navigation bar on your TV.
