Apple has launched its first touchscreen MacBook Pro, starting at $2,899 for the 14-inch and $3,399 for the 16-inch. But a fully specced 16-inch model now costs $14,549, according to The Verge, TechCrunch and MacRumors. That is $4,400 more than the previous 16-inch model's top price of $10,149.
The jump comes mainly from a new 16TB storage option that adds $7,000 to the bill. Apple also charges $2,000 for 128GB of memory and $150 for nano-texture glass. The launch marks a major shift for Apple, which avoided touchscreen Macs for years after the Touch Bar experiment.
MacBook Pro Touchscreen Specs and Price
The new MacBook Pro uses Apple's M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, with up to 128GB of unified memory and up to 16TB of storage. The display, called PROLED XDR, is OLED with 2,000 nits peak brightness in HDR and SDR, a 10,000,000:1 contrast ratio, and a Dynamic Island cutout instead of the old notch. A redesigned hinge stabilizes the screen for touch use.
The 14-inch model weighs 1.38 kg and the 16-inch 1.82 kg — lighter than their non-touch predecessors. Ports include three Thunderbolt 5, HDMI, SDXC, MagSafe and a headphone jack. The M5 Pro supports three external displays, the M5 Max up to four. Preorders open October 30, with availability starting November 6.
