Moonshot AI's Kimi K3.1 Pro is now live on Kimi.ai, inside the Kimi apps and through the company's API. The release includes a free plan with limited usage, and open weights are scheduled for November 4, according to Notebookcheck.
But the debut is not going smoothly. Techmeme flagged reporting by Carl Franzen at VentureBeat that Moonshot is facing allegations influencers were asked to promote Kimi K3.1 Pro without disclosing a commercial relationship with the company. The claim has spread quickly across English, French and Arabic tech media, and it lands right in the middle of the wider debate over AI hype.
Kimi K3.1 Pro specs and availability
Kimi K3.1 Pro can be tried for free on Kimi.ai and in the Kimi mobile apps, with usage capped under the free tier. Developers can access the model through Moonshot's API. Open weights are due by November 4, which matters for researchers and companies that want to run the model on their own infrastructure.
Moonshot also confirmed a deliberate safety decision before release. Cyberattack-related data was removed from the model's training to hold back its hacking skills, per Notebookcheck. In other words, the company chose to weaken a capability on purpose rather than ship it.
