Apple's iOS 27.3 beta has arrived, and it brings a pair of small but welcome changes to the iPhone Duo, the company's first foldable. According to Engadget, the update adds Reachability to the phone's outer display, while 9to5Mac reports that the keyboard on that same external screen has been redesigned with narrower keys and a slightly smaller, thinner font.
Both features target the same problem: using the iPhone Duo one-handed. The foldable carries a 5.4-inch OLED panel on the outside, and the new tools make that display easier to reach and type on. The beta also includes a redesigned Health app and new Siri AI actions, though the Duo tweaks are the most tangible day-to-day improvement.
How Reachability works on the iPhone Duo
Reachability is not new to Apple. The company first introduced it on the iPhone 6 back in 2014 as a way to cope with growing screen sizes, and on most iPhones it slides content downward so your thumb can reach the top of the screen. On the iPhone Duo, the behavior is different: swiping inward from either edge of the exterior display shifts everything on screen toward your thumb, either left or right.
In practice, that means if you are holding the Duo in your right hand, you can pull a browser window toward that side and tap the back button without stretching across the phone. MacRumors first spotted the addition. You can turn the feature on in the Settings app, under Accessibility > Touch.
iPhone Duo keyboard changes in iOS 27.3
The keyboard refresh, highlighted by Beta Profiles on X, is subtler but equally practical. Apple narrowed the keys and reduced the font size on the outer display, which makes typing on the smaller panel easier to manage, especially with one hand. Early testers quoted by 9to5Mac describe it as a clear upgrade despite the small visual difference.
The software pace around the Duo has been fast. The phone shipped with iOS 27.1, then iOS 27.2 arrived days later with Apple Pencil support and Edge Light for video calls. iOS 27.3 followed roughly a week after that, combining the keyboard tweak with Reachability.
