Apple's newest iPad Mini is winning strong reviews for its upgraded OLED display and the new A20 Pro chip, but the $699 starting price has become the story's sticking point. The Verge scored it 8/10, Engadget gave it 8.5/10, with both outlets calling it the best Mini in years — and one of the most expensive.
The refreshed tiny tablet brings the biggest changes to the line in years: a slightly larger 8.5-inch OLED screen, a thinner and lighter body, faster charging, and full dust and water resistance. The catch is the price, which jumped $200 compared to the previous model's launch.
iPad Mini 2026 specs and key upgrades
The 2026 iPad Mini marks the first time Apple has used an OLED panel on this model, a jump from the LCD used for years. Engadget reports the screen reaches 1,200 nits peak brightness with HDR content and a 2,000,000:1 contrast ratio, making it a noticeably better portable cinema.
Performance gets a major bump from the A20 Pro chip, which just debuted alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Duo. Apple also added a new speaker system and an IP67 rating for dust and water resistance — a first for any iPad — plus fast charging support.
