Apple released iOS 27.3 beta 1 on Monday, and the update spreads several of the iPhone Duo's headline features across the wider iPhone lineup, per 9to5Mac. The most visible change is StandBy: the redesigned clock faces and customization options that launched as an iPhone Duo exclusive are now rolling out to other models.
StandBy arrived with iOS 17 and turns an iPhone into a smart display when it sits horizontally on a charger. Until now, everyone outside the Duo was stuck with the original clock, widget and photo views. Apple's release notes say iOS 27.3 will reach all users in December, with mid-December the most likely window.
StandBy on more iPhones: what changes
The expanded StandBy experience is the core of the update for anyone who leaves a phone docked on a nightstand or desk. Customization goes well beyond the single original setup, and the new faces are the same ones Duo owners have had since launch.
The one limit is hardware: 9to5Mac reports that the multiple-versions-per-face feature requires an iPhone 11 or later. Older supported devices still get the new faces, just without the swipe-between setup.
- Redesigned Analog and Digital Clock faces, with new color and complication options
- New Calendar and Weather faces
- Shared Albums support on the Photos face, so you choose which shared photos appear
- Multiple versions of the same face, each with its own settings, swiped between on iPhone 11 or later
