Grok Bot, the AI agent app from SpaceXAI, has received a major backend upgrade that integrates Anthropic's Claude Opus 5.5, according to 9to5Mac. Elon Musk said the agent will use the best backend model for any given task, naming Claude Opus 5.5, MidJourney and Suno as examples.
The move, reported by The Information and confirmed by Techmeme, signals a shift toward a multi-model routing system for Grok Bot instead of relying solely on SpaceXAI/Cursor's own models. The upgrade comes as competition intensifies with Meta's Muse and OpenAI's ChatGPT Dot.
Grok Bot backend upgrade details
Grok Bot launched in August with dedicated apps for iPhone and iPad. An iPad version and more affordable plans arrived in September. October brings this backend overhaul, which replaces SpaceXAI/Cursor's less capable models with Anthropic's Claude for intelligence.
Musk's statement suggests Grok Bot will not be locked to a single AI provider. Instead, it will route tasks to the most capable model, whether that is Claude Opus 5.5 for reasoning, MidJourney for image generation, or Suno for audio creation.
Anthropic became a SpaceX customer this year as it sought compute to power Claude usage, according to 9to5Mac. That existing relationship likely eased the integration.
