ChatGPT has reached 1.2 billion weekly active users, OpenAI consumer product lead Adam Fry said during a fireside chat at an OpenAI-hosted dinner in New York City on Monday night. That is a gain of 200 million users in roughly two months, taking the assistant from 1 billion to 1.2 billion weekly actives in 60 days.
Fry also said ChatGPT's search volume now stands at approximately 20% of Google's, a figure OpenAI has measured itself. The numbers make ChatGPT's adoption one of the clearest signs yet of how deeply AI tools have moved into everyday use.
ChatGPT usage numbers in detail
Fry described the growth simply: "The growth is just going big." Alongside the user figure, he shared a set of usage stats that show how people actually use the product beyond typing questions.
Voice has become a major entry point. Between dictation and speaking with ChatGPT, the assistant now has 250 million combined weekly active users, while users create 1.5 billion images inside ChatGPT every week.
