The Browser Company is sunsetting its Arc browser on December 22nd, according to a notice posted on the Arc website. The company shifted its focus to Dia, its AI-first browser, last year, but had continued to maintain Arc until now.
The shutdown is rolling out in stages. As of today, new Arc accounts can no longer be created, and the company is directing users who want to keep their data toward an FAQ explaining how to import it into Dia.
Arc shutdown timeline
The Verge reported that the timeline was outlined in a post on the Arc website. Mobile users lose the most visible AI features first, while desktop users keep the browser until the final cutoff in December.
Arc built a following on big ideas about how a browser should work, many of which have since appeared in rival products. Users looking for a similar experience are often pointed to the Zen browser, which is based on Mozilla's Gecko engine.
- Starting today: new Arc accounts cannot be created.
- November 23rd: Browse for Me and other AI features are disabled on iOS and Android, and tab sign-in and syncing stop working on those platforms.
- December 22nd: Arc becomes inaccessible on macOS and Windows.
- December 22nd: Arc accounts are deactivated.
- December 22nd: Arc Search for Android is pulled from Google Play.
