Apple has confirmed a 'Pro and Tell' event for October 28 in Los Angeles, its third product showcase of the season. The invitation-only briefing for press and creators is expected to focus on new Macs and iPads, with the spotlight on what could be Apple's first touchscreen MacBook Pro.
The event follows last week's launch of the HomeView and other smart home products, and Apple's Greg Joswiak also confirmed it on X. While Apple hasn't revealed any products, rumors from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman and others point to a significant redesign of the MacBook Pro, new M6-powered Macs, and an OLED iPad mini.
Touchscreen MacBook Pro: what to expect
The star of the show is rumored to be a new MacBook Pro that would be the first Mac with a touchscreen. According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, it could arrive in 14-inch and 16-inch sizes but with a thinner and lighter design, an OLED display with thinner bezels, and a hole-punch camera cutout with Dynamic Island instead of a notch. It would be the biggest redesign since the 2021 models.
Don't expect the M6 chip inside this model. Gurman's sources claim Apple will stick with the current M5 Pro and M5 Max, with an M7 Pro and M7 Max refresh rumored for 2027. Macworld reports that this touchscreen MacBook won't replace existing models but will be a more expensive addition to the lineup, with the current non-touch versions remaining on sale.
M6 Macs and OLED iPad mini also rumored
Other Macs are expected to get the M6 chip, which debuted in August with the latest Mac mini. The leading candidate is an entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro, similar to last year's M5 update, with no touchscreen, OLED display, or design changes—just the M6 for better performance and efficiency. The iMac is also a strong candidate for an update, since the current model launched in 2024 with the M4 chip. The M6 is expected to bring a significant CPU and GPU jump, a dual 16-core Neural Engine for faster AI tasks, and possibly new color options.
