Apple Music is preparing a feature that will let you film yourself singing karaoke without opening a second app. Called Selfie Sing, it will arrive with iOS 27.3, the beta version of which Apple has already released, according to Engadget and MacRumors. The new iPhone software is expected to be widely available sometime this December.
The feature builds on Sing, the karaoke mode Apple introduced in 2022 that lets users take over the vocals of a track. Selfie Sing adds a camera: you record a video of yourself performing while the song's lyrics scroll up the screen in real time, then save or share the clip with friends.
Apple Music Selfie Sing: how it works
Using Selfie Sing is meant to be simple. You pick a song, enable the camera and start recording. Before saving or sharing the video, you can apply effects to your voice or change its volume, choosing between options such as Megaphone, Echo, Concert Hall and Studio, according to Engadget.
The feature also has its own playlist, and it will not cover the whole Apple Music catalog at launch. Apple described the playlist as a collection of songs that everybody already knows by heart: "the ones that come on and suddenly the whole room's singing along," the company wrote. So far it includes Since U Been Gone by Kelly Clarkson, What Makes You Beautiful by One Direction, Like a Virgin by Madonna, Baby One More Time by Britney Spears and 9 to 5 by Dolly Parton.
