Some Anthropic investors have discussed a valuation of around $1.5 trillion for the company's planned IPO, down from the roughly $2 trillion they had expected, according to Reuters. The shift follows disclosures showing slowing revenue growth in the third quarter.
The AI lab shared its quarterly numbers with potential investors at a private meeting in San Francisco on Wednesday, according to multiple US media reports. Anthropic is aiming for a November listing before Thanksgiving, making it the biggest test yet of investor appetite for the AI boom.
Anthropic Q3 revenue and growth
Anthropic reported third-quarter revenue of $16.8 billion, a roughly 45 percent jump from the second quarter, according to The Decoder. That is more than 3.6 times the company's total annual revenue for 2025.
But growth has cooled dramatically. In the second quarter, demand for the developer tool Claude Code pushed revenue up by more than 140 percent compared to Q1. A summer slowdown is one likely factor, since people typically work less and burn through fewer tokens.
OpenAI also launched a strong competitor with Astra in September, which Anthropic only countered in late September with Opus 5.5. The company did not discuss its September annualized revenue rate or provide a full-year outlook, which reportedly disappointed some potential investors.
- Q3 revenue: $16.8 billion
- Growth: ~45% quarter-on-quarter, down from 140% in Q2
- Adjusted operating margin: 11% for the year through Q3
