Anthropic has cut the cost of using its AI models through its API, halving the cache read price for Sonnet 5.5 from $0.20 to $0.10, according to reporting by Carl Franzen of VentureBeat. The company is also introducing monthly API credits for its paying subscribers: $100 for Max 5x users, $200 for Max 20x users, and up to $500 to be shared among Team users.
Separately, Anthropic has set pricing for Haiku 5.5, its smallest model, at $0.10 per 1M input tokens and $0.50 per 1M output tokens for requests up to 100K tokens, rising to $0.50 and $2.50 above that threshold. That compares with $1 and $5 for Haiku 4.5, as reported by Frederic Lardinois of The New Stack.
Claude Haiku 5.5 Pricing and Effort Controls
The new Haiku 5.5 pricing represents a dramatic reduction compared to its predecessor, Haiku 4.5, which was priced at $1 per 1M input tokens and $5 per 1M output tokens. The lower tier applies to requests up to 100K tokens, while larger requests are billed at $0.50 for input and $2.50 for output.
Anthropic is also adding effort controls to Haiku 5.5, giving developers more say over how much compute the model spends on a given task. According to The New Stack, the model posts significant gains on computer-use and command-line benchmarks, and Anthropic is pitching it specifically for agentic work.
- Haiku 5.5: $0.10 per 1M input tokens, $0.50 per 1M output tokens for requests up to 100K tokens
- Above 100K tokens: $0.50 input, $2.50 output per 1M tokens
- Haiku 4.5 for comparison: $1 input, $5 output per 1M tokens
