AMD expects to outsell Intel in the fourth quarter for the first time in history, according to Tom's Hardware. The company pointed to record quarterly revenue driven by the artificial intelligence boom, even as its client and gaming divisions prepare for double-digit declines going into 2027.
The milestone caps a years-long comeback for AMD, which has steadily eaten into Intel's share of PC and server processors. It also arrives alongside a separate first: AMD's Radeon GPUs reportedly outsold Nvidia GeForce GPUs on Amazon US for the first time ever, per Notebookcheck.
AMD vs Intel: the Q4 milestone
AMD has never shipped more processors than Intel in a single quarter since the two companies began competing in the x86 market. That changes in Q4, according to the company's own guidance reported by Tom's Hardware.
The surge is not coming from consumer PCs. AMD's data center and AI accelerator business is carrying the quarter, while the client and gaming segments are expected to slide by double digits through 2027. Intel, meanwhile, continues to fight for its own turnaround in foundry and PC chips.
